How AI Unmasks Deepfakes and Fake Identities

Deepfakes and fake identities are fast becoming a roadblock for the digital age. Deepfake movies are becoming more sophisticated by editing video and audio to generate realistic but fake material with artificial intelligence (AI). Deepfakes have the power to deceive many people by impersonating famous people or generating fake material, hence they have fantastic opportunities for identity theft, fraud, and especially dissemination. Similarly, widely used in all sorts of cons are counterfeit identities, those formed by melding genuine and fabricated personal information—they abound in fraud of all kinds, including fake financial transactions like starting bank accounts or applying for credit cards. Even if these online deceptions pose serious risks, artificial intelligence is starting to become a useful tool in their avoidance Deepfake on the rise.   



To modify video or audio files so that it appears a human is speaking or acting on something they never truly did, Deepfakes use machine learning techniques particularly deep neural networks. With the progress of technology, AI will be able to detect even the most sophisticated manipulations more and more easily. Social media platforms, e-commerce platforms, and banks are already implementing AI-driven tools to detect and thwart frauds, and this is likely to go on.

However, AI is no silver bullet. People need to be trained and keep themselves informed in order to augment AI because AI can only catch what it has been trained on. Public awareness and knowledge are the keys to empowering citizens to recognize spurious content or suspicious activity. While AI is a valuable ally with its capabilities, human awareness is the best asset to halt cyber deception.



In short, deepfakes and fake identities are a very serious threat to the online world, but hope comes from AI. As AI gets better at identifying such cyber frauds, it will become an increasingly important tool in protecting institutions and individuals from fraud. Provided that privacy concerns are treated with sensitivity, all stakeholders can collectively ushe in a better, safer, and more trusted online world for everyone.
